I have been playing table top RPGs since I was 12, and I have been playing it fairly steadily throughout my life. I really believe in the power of collaborative storytelling, and I live for those moments in which both players and the DM manage to create wonderful moments.
While D&D is the staple, I have enjoyed other systems throughout the years, starting with Middle Earth Role Playing, but also Rolemaster, Mutant, Cthulu, Coriolis, and Fiasco.
For DMing, I often draw inspiration from The Adventure Zone, Compromise and Conceit, and RPG Tips.
Campaign Writeups
Below are links to writeups of some of the homebrew campaigns I have DM’d. For those players who were part of the campaign, I hope it will be a good memory of an awesome adventure and a great time we shared. For other DMs and players, I hope it can serve as inspiration.
- The Scramble for Mystra – Players arrive in O’shude, an island nation rich in mystra, a powerful mineral that different factions are fighting for. The balance of power is upset with the arrival of the high elven empire.
- Tales of the ELM – a new virus appears that seems to only target humans. However, the deceased turn into zombies, and they are less choosy with their targets.
- The Spider Wasp Chronicles – An elven princess from the nearing kingdom is accused of destroying a small village. Meanwhile, players investigate the disappearance of magical sprites.
Characters I’ve liked
- Arithmus Contador aka The Abacus – Battle for Mystra – The Abacus is a fantasy forensic accountant. Thanks to his warlock connection with the Great Old One there is no money trail he cannot follow. Prone to deadpan accounting puns, his attacks mostly deal psychic damage when he tries to explain balance sheets to his enemies.
- Groki aka Squirt – Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden – a woof elf rogue, Squirt was the scout of a party that kept crumbling… and dying. I enjoyed the emotional shifts of the character throughout the campaign, from wanting to be a hero and looking up to some of the other PCs to feeling betrayed and becoming more curious about Auril. I also liked the relationship he built with Hanra, the only other PC to make it from beginning to end.
- Charity Jones – Descent into Avernus – Human Paladin navigating hell, what’s not to like? My first time playing with a lawful good character.
- Captain Al Hambra – Coriolis – he was a reject with unknown mystic powers, yet he ended up commanding a ragtag team of misfits to bring down Samina and her Corsairs. Finally corrupted by evil and the potential of the cadaver clock.
- Chang Chang – Mutant Year Zero – Chang Chang was something akin to a bard. Unable to pretty much do anything but talk, they saved the day more than once by negotiating with the enemy. No wonder their catchphrase was “let’s make a deal.”
- Alfier – the OG. An elven archer in Middle Earth (MERP), he was surprisingly hard to kill. Ended up marrying an NPC, Lassewen. Their daughter, Tsil, would later be played by a buddy of mine.
